Located in Double Bay, Sydney, this pool renovation transforms the outdoor space into a refined coastal retreat. The existing beadcrete pool has been elevated with a fully tiled mosaic finish, bringing depth, texture, and a sense of understated luxury to the design. New stone pool surrounds create clean, contemporary lines, while updated fencing and carefully considered planting frame the space with privacy and softness. A custom timber bench introduces warmth and functionality, offering a relaxed spot to pause and enjoy the setting. CHALLENGES

Delivering this Double Bay pool renovation came with a number of logistical and technical challenges, driven largely by the site’s narrow, steep access and temporary stair setup. With no machinery access available, all materials had to be manually hauled up and down the site, requiring careful sequencing and coordination throughout construction. Additional complexity arose from rectifying issues with the existing pool, including a non-functional ballast tank, which was repurposed and filled with soil to create a new planted zone. These constraints demanded precise planning and adaptability, ultimately allowing the project to not only overcome site limitations but also enhance the overall landscape outcome through thoughtful problem-solving and integrated design.

The design of this Double Bay pool centres on clarity, balance, and material cohesion, creating a space that feels both refined and effortlessly liveable. Clean architectural lines are softened by the subtle texture and depth of the fully tiled mosaic interior, while the light-toned stone surrounds enhance the sense of openness and continuity throughout the outdoor area. The layout has been carefully considered to maximise usability within the footprint, with integrated seating, open paving zones, and layered planting working together to define spaces without visual clutter. A custom timber bench introduces warmth and contrast, complementing the cooler finishes and tying the landscape into the built form.
